Founded in 2003, the Los Angeles-based firm of Samperton & Hackathorn specializes in residential and commercial design.  Partners, Schuyler Samperton and Anna Hackathorn, recently formed the company after spending several years in the decorating field.

Additionally, the company recently acquired the lighting company Broad Beach Design in June, 2005.  Offering a range of table lamps, floor lamps and chandeliers, Broad Beach will soon expand its line to include sconces and a variety of ceiling fixtures.

Taking their design direction from the intrinsic architecture of each particular space, Samperton & Hackathorn use unexpected combinations of color, pattern and form to create classic interiors with a sense of the unique.  Inspired by designers ranging from Renzo Mongiardino to David Hicks, they equally enjoy working in both traditional and contemporary settings.

Before beginning her career in design, Samperton was a program publicist for the Fox Broadcasting Company, where she worked on many television shows including “The Simpsons,” “Melrose Place” and the Emmy Awards, among others.  Originally from Washington, DC, Samperton graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, CT with a B.A. in Art History.  She also attended New York University and Parsons School of Design in New York.

While living in New York, Hackathorn managed the design of major flagship stores, as well as smaller boutiques worldwide while working for Robin Kramer Inc., whose clients included the clothing designers Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan, Tommy Hilfiger, Narciso Rodriquez and Isaac Mizrahi, as well as Barneys New York.  Previously, she worked for Calvin Klein where she assisted in the design of retail stores in America, Europe and Asia. Born in Southern California, Hackathorn graduated from Tulane University with a B.A. in Communications.  In addition, she attended Parsons School of Design in New York and Paris, as well as the American University in Paris.

Samperton & Hackathorn has been featured in W (May, 2003), House Beautiful (September, 2003; February, 2004), In Style Home (Fall/Winter, 2003; Spring, 2005), Elle Décor (November, 2003), Departures (November/December, 2004) and C (September, 2005) among others.  The firm also participated in the 2003 House Beautiful–sponsored designer show house in Bel Air, California, to benefit the Childrens’ Action Network.
